AI mock interview for Java developers

You know the implementation. Practice explaining why it works, what it costs, and what happens when it fails.

One free eight-question interview from a dedicated 16-question Java bank. Email verification required. Optional job tailoring is available before starting.

Questions from the Java track

  1. When would you choose a HashMap, TreeMap or ConcurrentHashMap for a Java service?

Clarify ordering, concurrency and workload before choosing; explain what the alternative would cost.

  2. Why must equals and hashCode agree, and what can go wrong when a mutable object is used as a map key?

Use a small example, explain the contract and name the behavior you would test.

  3. Explain when you would use an extends wildcard versus a super wildcard in a generic Java API.

Describe which values can safely be read or written and illustrate with a concrete API.

    Practice
  4. How would you decide where to catch an exception in a service that calls an unreliable dependency?

Discuss recovery, preserving context, retry safety and what the caller needs to know.

Make your Java reasoning visible

A correct API name is only the start of an answer. Explain the workload, the constraints, and why a choice fits them. If you recommend a collection, discuss ordering, duplicate handling, concurrency and the operations that dominate the workload. If you describe a production fix, separate the symptom from the evidence that identified its cause.

Use this AI mock interview for Java developers to rehearse the communication around engineering work. Speak or type, review your transcript, then submit for feedback on your explanation. Automated feedback is a revision aid, not proof that a Java implementation is correct.

Prepare across four interview areas

  • Language and collections: explain equality, hashing, generics and the behavior your code relies on.
  • Concurrency: identify shared state, ordering requirements and how you would reproduce a race.
  • Service design: discuss timeouts, retries, idempotency and observability before naming a framework.
  • Engineering experience: show your role in a debugging decision, migration or disagreement, with a truthful outcome.

Turn a job description into focused practice

Choose the Java track and add the actual job description before you start the interview. A role focused on Spring services calls for different preparation from a low-latency trading role. The optional job-preparation step can generate questions grounded in the description; the authored Java bank is also available without tailoring. Do not include confidential employer material.

A useful answer starts with the constraint

For “Which map would you use?”, first establish whether ordering matters, whether keys can be null, and whether multiple threads write to it. Compare plausible options, make a choice, then explain what you would measure or test. This is more informative than listing collection classes without a decision.

For algorithm explanations, use the DSA interview preparation page. For broader design and debugging conversations, see software-engineer mock interviews. Structure project stories with the STAR method.

Start with one complete interview

Your free session includes eight questions and one AI review per answer. Paid plans include 100 reviews each month; paid retries use another review. Check plan availability before relying on additional sessions.

Frequently asked questions

Does this AI mock interview run Java code?

No. Practice explaining your reasoning by voice or text. The tool does not compile Java, execute tests or certify code correctness.

Does this have a dedicated Java question bank?

Yes. An eight-question session draws from 16 Java-development prompts covering collections, concurrency, services, testing and engineering experience. You can also add a Java job description before starting to request a tailored session.

Is Java developer interview practice free?

Your first eight-question interview is free after email verification, with one AI review per answer. See the pricing page for paid allowances; checkout is not connected yet.
